Kevin De Bruyne to leave Man City when his contract ends this summer

In a social media statement, the club's captain stated that "these will be my final months as a Manchester City player".

De Bruyne, whose contract expires in the summer, joined City from Wolfsburg in 2015 for £54.5 million and has scored 106 goals in 413 matches during a trophy-laden decade at the club.

The 33-year-old will be remembered as one of the Premier League's best players, having won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, five Carabao Cups, and the Champions League in an extraordinary spell of success for City.

Guardiola said it was a sad day to confirm De Bruyne's departure and that he "is one of the greatest" this country has ever seen.

City say arrangements will now be made up "to deliver a fitting tribute and farewell" for De Bruyne, who they describe as a "global icon of the game".

De Bruyne thanked City fans in his leaving announcement, but has yet to clarify his future plans.

The City midfielder's contract will expire at the end of June, midway through this summer's Club World Cup. At this point, it is unknown whether this will prolong his contract for a short amount of time so that he can say his goodbyes in the United States.
